On June 21st, 2013, Villanueva went into action again and beat Julian Rivera taking the winning record to 10 wins. In 2013 Villanueva fought his next opponent in Julian Rivera. A challenging 10 round fight that ended in Villanueva's favour as the judges awarded Villanueva the UD victory. Villanueva was the 8th person to defeat Rivera.
Matthew Villanueva added another win to his record by beating Daniel Lozano on October 4th, 2013, upping his record to 11 wins. The most recent outing for Villanueva proved one that was easier than expected. Lozano was left wanting as the fight ended in round 8 of 12 (RTD). Villanueva now moves on to hopefully face some of the bigger names in the division.
