Akifumi Shimoda's debut fight took place on January 2003 when he was 18 years of age. On February 4th, 2006, Shimoda took on and was defeated by Mikihito Seto in his first career defeat meaning his career tally went to 12-1-0. Coming into the fight with high confidence Shimoda fought his next fight against Mikihito Seto on February 4th, 2006. Unfortunately, Shimoda was outclassed and lost the decision on the judges scorecards taking his record to 12-1-0. 13 wins followed where Shimoda went on to fight Saenghiran Lookbanyai, Daisuke Yamanaka and Yu Enya amongst others, prolonging his win streak.
Taking a knock to his career, Shimoda fought and was defeated by Rico Ramos on July 9th, 2011 taking his record to 23-3-1. Ramos was a fight too far for Shimoda and after a rough fight Ramos became the first person to stop Shimoda in round 7. Fights against boxers including Hugo Partida, Jonel Alibio and Richard Betos followed where he won 5 fights taking his winning streak to 27 wins.
Alejandro Hernandez was the next fight for Shimoda on September 7th, 2013 and also his next career win. Hernandez was a great challenge for Shimoda, losing over the full 10 round distance and crowning Shimoda as the 10th person to have defeated Hernandez.
The next defeat of Shimoda's career came against Marvin Sonsona on February 22nd, 2014. This took his career record to 28-4-2. Shimoda struggled from the off with Sonsona, suffering his 2nd stoppage defeat out of 34 career fights. The latest loss on Shimoda's journey came via KO in round 3.
